A Trip to McLeodganj

Mcleodganj is a town located in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. Home to many tourists around the year, this town has all that you need to enjoy your little time away from the daily hustle. Surrounded by beautiful mountains and greenery, the place offers an escape from the pollution of metropolitan cities. If you are planning a trip here you should book your tickets from busandticket.com as they have great offers and discount for their customers and they always come up with some exciting offers as well. I'd like to suggest some places I personally enjoyed visiting.

The travel duration from Delhi to McLeodganj is approximately 12hrs, so it's better to travel during the night but you can prefer according to your own comfort. It is advised to book bus tickets and hotels prior to the trip as you may find it difficult to get accommodation due to the place being a famous tourist spot.

My first suggestion would be the "Bhagsu Nag Falls". The trek towards the waterfall starts from the Bhagsu Nag Temple. The 1 km long trail offers you scenic beauty of tall, green mountains and fresh air to breathe. The water at the waterfall is freezing cold which you can enjoy with a hot plate of maggi from the cafes up there.

The next you can try is the "Triund Trek". The trek stretches about 9kms and offers a magnificent view of a long range of beautiful mountains covered with snow, at the destination. The path is rocky and quite steep and successfully offers you the thrill of hiking. It's said that "The best view comes after the hardest climb" and this trek proves it.

Although not the hardest, it's preferable to prepare yourself through some daily walking exercises beforehand to avoid sore legs the next day. I can assure you that the scenery at the end will be worth all the efforts. If you plan to complete the trek and return back on the same day it's advised that you start early in the morning, otherwise there's always an option of camping. Although, you must book for the camping in advance.

McLeodganj is home to many Tibetans and so it's not unusual to see monasteries along the way. But there's a special monastery you should try visiting. The "Dalai Lama Temple" originally named "Namgyal Monastery" is the personal monastery of the 14th Dalai Lama. The place gives you a sense of peace, positivity, spirituality and a closer look at the daily lives of the monks. And if you're lucky enough, you might get a chance to see the Dalai Lama himself.

Besides this, the street market offers various kinds of handmade items that you can buy as souvenirs. There are many restaurants offering North Indian or South Indian food but you should definitely try the local specialties as well.

You can also travel to Dharamshala which is only a half an hour journey, and visit the Dharamshala Cricket stadium as well.
